How To Remove Hair Color

Men are more prone to leaving their hair its natural color. However, from time to time, we like to change our look somewhat. If a radical change is desired, it is not uncommon to color their hair. Today, the possibility exists to make hair lighter or darker than its natural color. In some cases, a complete change of color is possible. But, if one tries to change his look by using hair dyes and finds himself unhappy with the result, it is good to know how to remove hair color.

The first thing one should know is that it is impossible to remove hair color that makes hair lighter than its natural shade. This is because part of the coloring process involves bleaching out the natural pigments in hair strands. If the pigments were not removed, the hair could not be lightened. Therefore, the only answer for this is to have one's hair dyed again, using a darker shade.

It is important to know the underlying pigments that are normally a part of each hair color and be able to replace them when attempting to darken hair back to its natural color. Failure to do so can result in some really strange colors. Having a professional hair stylist perform this procedure is probably best for ensuring one gets the desired results.

If hair has been colored a darker color and the results are not what was desired, there are some different remedies one can try. One of the first keys is acting quickly. Hair dye is much easier to remove while it is relatively fresh and new.

One product that is highly recommended is Color Zap by L'Oreal. One application of this product can gently remove the dye from hair strands without stripping out the natural color. If unsure how to use, it might be a good idea to have a professional take care of it.

Depending on how much too dark the hair color has become, it could be a simple matter of washing the hair repeatedly a few times to strip out excess color. If the color is much too dark, one may need to apply a clarifying shampoo that is designed to strip all hair products out. These are often powerful enough to remove everything, including pigments and oil clinging to the hair strands.

In extreme cases, one may be forced to bleach his hair with hydrogen peroxide. This can remove all the pigments from the hair, including its own natural color. Care must be exercised, however, to avoid damaging one's hair severely.

Summer Hair Care

It would be hard to have gotten this far in life without knowing a thing or two about the damaging effects the sun can have on your skin. But how often do you think about what the hot summer sun might be doing to your hair?

The truth is that the sweltering sun beating down on your head is doing more than just making you sweat through all your clean t-shirts. The sun could actually be causing some serious damage to your hair that you will likely be sorry for come fall. Intense UV rays rob hair of its moisture, leaving your style dry and potentially frazzled.

Here are a few easy ways to keep your hair from ending up fried by Labor Day:

Sunscreen

Ever had a sunburn on your scalp? Yeah, well, it’s no picnic, especially when it starts to peel. Save yourself from a flaky, peeling scalp by putting sunscreen on areas that are likely to burn. If you have a bald or closely shaved head, sunscreen is a must!

Conditioner

Don’t use a conditioner? There’s no time like the present! Seriously, in the summertime you hair will benefit immensely from a conditioning treatment to replenish moisture lost to the sun. It will leave your hair a lot softer and more manageable.

The Almighty Hat

Don’t underestimate the power of the hat. This nifty accessory was specifically designed to keep the sun out of your eyes and off of your head, making it an easy way to protect your hair from UV rays. Don’t leave for a day at the beach or out on the water without one.

Swimming

Summer is for swimming. But swimming has the potential to be very damaging to your hair. Pools are full of chlorine which damages and dries hair. Salt water has similar effects. Perhaps the best way to prevent damage from salt or chlorinated water is to rinse your hair thoroughly before and after going swimming. When your hair is saturated with fresh water beforehand it will be less likely to absorb any chemicals or drying agents. Also, try to wash, or at least rinse, your hair as soon as possible after swimming so as to not allow chemicals to hang out on your hair for too long.
